چکیده

The Cornell Electron Storage ring facility CESR operates with 2 GeV multi-bunch electron and positron beams in a single beam-pipe. Electrostatic separators are used to separate the two counter-rotating beams at the parasitic crossings. When the beam energy was lowered from 5 GeV in 2003, the strength of the beam-beam interaction became a more important factor in beam-current limitations, resulting in extensive experimental and modeling studies of their characteristics. The CESR lattice design procedure has been modi£ed recently to account explicitly for their dynamic consequences. We describe our modeling of the beam-beam interaction, experimental validation techniques, and investigations into compensation strategies.

Beam Backgrounds at CLEO : Design andPerformance of the

2 Abstract In November 1995, the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR) began Phase II operations. The CESR/CLEO Phase II upgrade involved the installation of a silicon vertex detector for the CLEO experiment and an interaction region optimized for a small-radius beampipe and bunch-train collisions at total beam currents of 600 mA. The design of the CESR Phase II Interaction Region is described a...

The Interaction between a Beam and a Superconducting Cavity Module: Measurements in CESR and CESR-Phase III Goals*

Plans for the next generation of electron-positron colliders (B-factories and B-factory-like machines) call for high beam currents to produce luminosities of the order of 1033. To store these high currents in a machine, special attention must be paid to the interaction of the beam with discontinuities in the surrounding vacuum chamber. RF cavities are among the biggest perturbations in accelera...

The Incoherent Long Range Beam - Beam Interaction in CESR

CESR has reached the world's highest luminosity[1] using mutibunch operation. The key to this operation is a horizontal `pretzel' separation of the beams in the arcs and a crossing angle at the IP. The pretzel separation is needed since the counter rotating bunches share the same beam pipe and there is thus a long range beam{beam interaction (LRBBI) between the beams. The e ects of the LRBBI ca...

CBN 95 - 5 1 Coherency of the Long Range Beam - Beam Interaction in CESR

Making more luminosity is the name of the game at CESR these days. Luminosity is proportional to the average beam current I, the vertical tuneshift parameter y, and inversely proportional to the vertical beta function at the interaction point y . The main thrust of our e orts is to increase the average beam current by adding more bunches, without losing ground on the other two parameters. This ...
